Reimagined the modern Emirati majlis by reviving the spirit of heritage, authenticity and Emirati culture through a collection of products born from conversations about crafts and design.

Rooted in the essence of Emirati tradition, Woven Conversations explored how a single cultural element could evolve into a rich and immersive spatial experience. Ajzal Studio believed that heritage was not a static memory but a living source of inspiration, continuously renewed in every piece, telling a story between the authenticity of the past and the creativity of the present. Rather than isolating motifs, it wove together ten distinct elements from Emirati culture, each reinterpreted through a modern design language.

Each piece – from the Mangrove Bench, Sadu Façade and Scented Entrance to the Machabba Side Table, Da’an Stools, Sadu Carpets, Ghaf Lighting, Dune Tiles and Stone Wall Art – collectively drew inspiration from the domestic and architectural language of historic Emirati homes. Each element paid homage to the familiar details of everyday life while reawakening the spirit of the traditional majlis as a space for connection and exchange.

The installation’s materiality played a central role in shaping this narrative. Solid wood, camel leather, handwoven Sadu textiles, ceramic clay, sculpted glass and locally sourced stone intertwined to evoke the tactile warmth and visual depth of Emirati craftsmanship. Through these materials, the installation transformed memory into form, presenting heritage not as a relic of the past but as a living, evolving dialogue between culture and design.

Completing the experience, Ajzal Studio collaborated with Backyard to present an Emirati fusion culinary activation that celebrated the generosity at the heart of Emirati hospitality. Blending traditional flavours with contemporary techniques, this partnership extended the essence of the majlis beyond design, inviting guests to experience heritage through taste and shared moments of connection.
