A sanctuary of shifting shadows inspired by the desert’s timeless rhythms.

The Space Within is an architectural pavilion rooted in the cultural context of the UAE. Constructed from DuneBlocks, which are modular units made of DuneCrete, the structure filters shadows through circular openings that reference the desert’s shifting light. DuneCrete is a next-generation low-carbon concrete developed in the Emirates. It is produced using desert sand from Al Ain instead of ecologically harmful riverbed sand. By reducing cement content by 50%, it achieves up to 50% lower embodied carbon while maintaining the strength of conventional concrete.

At the core of the installation also stands a round table that uncovers the raw essence of ARDH: a collection of experiments, prototypes and material explorations that traces its ongoing journey of research and development.

Ultimately, The Space Within demonstrates how material, memory and landscape can intersect. It bridges heritage and innovation, offering a contemplative space while showcasing sustainable design practices that point to the future of architecture in the region.

About ARDH Collective:

Founded in 2021, Dubai-based ARDH Collective is at the forefront of material innovation with pioneering creations such as DateForm, which is the world’s first solid surface material made from discarded date seeds, and DuneCrete. The collective was established by Alhaan Ahmed, Alyina Ahmed and Maximo Tettamanzi, three visionary designers who bring diverse expertise in product design, architecture, strategy and sustainability. Together, they share a unified mission to reimagine materials for a more responsible and creative built environment. Their work reflects a deep connection to the UAE’s landscapes and resources, combining heritage with forward-looking design to craft sustainable materials and spaces that resonate globally.
