The Royal Institute of British Architects
An International Awards programme that recognises architecture across the Gulf region.
For more than fifty years, the RIBA Awards have recognised excellence in architecture through a process of rigorous evaluation. In 2025, the Royal Institute of British Architects expands its International Awards with two new categories: the Asia Pacific Awards and the Middle East Awards (GCC). These mark the first phase of a broader international programme to acknowledge architectural achievement beyond the UK.
The winners of the Middle East Award will be announced on 5th November 2025, followed by a dedicated award celebration on 7th November. All shortlisted built projects will be eligible for consideration in the RIBA International Prize.
The shortlist for the Middle East Award spans four countries: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain. These include both regional and international architects working across the GCC, as well as practices based in the UK, USA, Germany, Singapore and Japan. The selected projects range from civic buildings and reused historic structures to climate-responsive developments and new cultural spaces. Together, they demonstrate the role of architecture in addressing environmental and social challenges in the region.
About The Royal Institute of British Architects:
RIBA is a professional body for architects based in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1834, it promotes the advancement of architecture through education, advocacy and recognition. The RIBA International Awards were established to celebrate architectural work from across the world that delivers social and environmental value. In 2025, RIBA launched its Middle East Award (GCC), extending its reach into the Gulf for the first time. The award highlights work being produced across the region and forms part of a wider effort to engage with global architectural discourse.
