Explore the visual dialogue between letterforms from different scripts in this hands-on workshop.
This workshop explores the visual dialogue between scripts, focusing on rhythm, contrast, flow, modularity and cultural exchange. Participants will deconstruct, remix and invent hybrid alphabets using shapes, grids, stencils or cut letters. All work is paper based, with laptops optional for research. Draw, swap and combine words from different languages to create a collaborative “Lingua Franca” type specimen poster. Led by John Paul Dowling, Head of Communication Design at NCAD, the session reflects his international expertise in typographic research, education and practice.
