Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation
Explored the interplay of disciplines and the transformative potential of interstitial spaces in design.
"عبر," an Arabic term that holds dual meanings—'across' and 'through'—served as the conceptual foundation for this exhibition by the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI). At DIDI, design transcended single disciplines, connecting the macro with the micro, the material with the digital, and the local with the global. This movement was not linear; it explored layers of complexity where the spaces between offered fertile ground for innovation.
The exhibition examined these interstitial spaces where boundaries dissolved and ideas transformed. Design achieved its greatest impact by crossing disciplines and overcoming the divides of time, culture, and materiality. Each project in "عبر" reflected this ethos, showing that meaningful change occurred through the act of passing through different scales, systems, or experiences. By embracing the tension between 'across' and 'through,' DIDI invited engagement with design as a process of bridging and transforming, where impact lay in the journey itself.
