Dubai designer, Raudha Alghurair, is an Architecture graduate of the respected American University of Sharjah (AUS). Radha believes in the collaborative nature between art, architecture and social psychology, and maintains a passion for material and artistic explorations and expression. She experiments with different medias, while employing gestural markings to capture the essence of the moment. The artist is completing her fellowship at the Cultural Excellency Program, sponsored by ADMAF and British Council, and has participated in various exhibits including; ‘Remembering to Resist’ 2011, ‘Themes of Contemporary Art’ 2012, the Sikka Art Fair 2012, ‘Six degrees’ exhibit 2015 and ‘Contents’ exhibit 2015. In 2011, she was the first AUS architecture student to receive the prestigious Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award.

The installation, Lot 36587, is part of a body of work that examines notions of objects in space and containment. Instigated from exploratory sketching of cells, embryos and the womb, an obsessive repetitive motion of an organic container evolved to explore the container and the contained. Materials used are perishable, alluding to the ephemeral nature of life and cells, the building blocks of all living things. As a site specific installation, the ideas of container and contained, which were once framework and metal containers, are now developed to consider larger contexts. Blurring the boundaries between the container versus the contained, installation piece versus architecture and sculpture versus science, Lot 36587 explores where the boundaries of each lie. When can they coexist and when must they exist apart.
