Dubai Design Week 2018 saw the launch of the winning Design 100 competition, unveiled at the Downtown Design fair.

'The Reading Bench' was designed by Sakina Kara-Sabur and Alicia Spoljar from BySOZO Interiors, with only 100 pieces produced by American Hardwood Export Council. The limited-edition piece is available to buy directly from d3 with all proceeds going to Dubai Cares and their support for Syrian refugees.

Exploring the message of harmony, as promoted by the founding father of the UAE, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. From the side, the shape resembles a dhow with a sail and is also reminiscent of Dubai’s iconic landmark Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Seamlessly blending history and modernity that is characteristic of the UAE, the piece's seven points represent the unity of the seven emirates encourages reflection and a sense of belonging.

Held as part of d3’s Design for Good initiative, Design 100 aimed at uniting the design community through encouraging creative collaborations and promoting social change in the UAE. Proceeds from the sale of the pieces will be donated to Dubai Cares. The inaugural Design 100 competition, staged in collaboration with Dubai Cares and the American Hardwood Export Council, was open to all designers specialising in furniture and functional objects across the UAE.
