The eighth edition of the design programme will seek to address fundamental challenges facing the world today.

Following the presentation of the final works of the Tanween 2020 cohorts during the recently concluded Dubai Design Week, Tashkeel has announced the call for entries for the eighth edition of the Tanween design programme 2021.

Open to designers, artists, engineers and scientists living and working in the UAE the Tanween design porgramme offers a journey of discovery, research and experimentation, training and mentoring that leads to an innovative, functional design piece that is designed, developed and produced in the UAE, and is ultimately revealed to the public during Dubai Design Week.

Tanween 2021 welcomes individual designers as well as duos (a designer/artist with an engineer/scientist) who wish to work with local manufacturers, fabricators and suppliers during the programme to refine their design thinking as well as practical skills.

Through a series of LABs and supporting working sessions, participants will engage in experimental and collaborative practice, receive constructive critical feedback, investigate of new business models, reflection and evaluation, and draw on a wide range of resources unique to the UAE to bring their ideas of life.

Led by Tashkeel with contemporary design project specialist Helen Voce (UK) and local mentor Kevin Badni with contributions from UAE-based and international design professionals, the Tanween 2021 programme is receiving applications by 10pm Saturday 5 December 2020.
