Innovators from around the globe reveal the countless ways design affects the world we live in and how it will shape the future of our planet and our lives.

Some of the most innovative designers and creative thinkers delve into topics such as what happens when the ancient and the modern collide, how the world might look when we have fewer resources, and what it means to source innovative solutions in the UAE and the wider region.

Design leaders of Expo 2020 Dubai will talk about the impact Expo will have and the legacy it will leave for the city, the nation and the region; Marjan Faraidooni, Chief Officer for Exhibitions and Pavilions at Expo 2020 leads a discussion with Andrew Whalley, Chairman of Grimshaw and lead designer of Expo’s Sustainability Pavilion; David Spierings of V8 Architects and Project Director of the Dutch Pavilion at Expo 2020; and Simon Fraser, Principal at Hopkins Architects, helping design Expo’s Theme Districts.

Lead by Hani Asfour, Dean of Dubai Institute of Design & Innovation, industry leaders from Facebook, Fjord Accenture, EY (Ernst & Young), Atolye, Eight Inc and Palmwood will take stock of what a career in design looks like today and what will be critical to uncovering new professional opportunities in design.

“How will we live together,” the 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale’s theme, is the inspiration of a dialogue between UAE National Pavilion architects Wael Al Awar and Kenichi Teramoto of Ibda Design, with Brendan McGetrick, Creative Director of the Museum of the Future. Three separate panel discussions will propose solutions based on materials and systems, cities and communities and energy and nutrition, presented for the third consecutive year by UAE Modern in partnership with MAS Paints.

A conversation on contemporising visual representation will include a discussion of bilingual design presented by the Embassy of Switzerland, with Matthieu Cortat, Head of Master Type Design at École Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne (ECAL) with Pascale Zoghbi and Huda AbiFares.

3D artists and visualisation wizards make up a full-day conference presented by V-Ray and SketchUp on the newest ways to visualise design; from virtual reality to building information modeling technology.
