Global Grad Show will return to Dubai Design Week, with Eleanor Watson as the appointed curator for the 2019 edition.

As part of the curatorial team at the Design Museum in London, Eleanor has worked on a number of exhibitions with a focus on drawing visibility to the impact of design, such as 2018’s Beazley Designs of the Year. She is also responsible for curating a triannual programme of free public displays for the museum.

On curating the show, Eleanor commented “Young people today find themselves in a uniquely challenging position. As we face the stark realities of a global environmental crisis, as well as the more insidious effects of hyper-connectivity, it can feel that we are part of a landscape that is already simply too crowded.

Over the past few months I have been learning from some of the best design, art and engineering schools from across the globe on what it means to be a designer in a world that already has too much and how we can better live in an era where the links between the micro-scale of our individual human experience and the macro scale of our planet can no longer be ignored.

Global Grad Show will be the coming together of all these ideas and will demonstrate that although the role of design seems to stay the same; it is about engaging with the world around us with intelligence and compassion.”

Elenor takes over the position from Brendan McGetrick who will continue to advise on the curation and programming of the show while assuming his new role as Creative Director of the Museum of the Future, set to open at the end of the year.

Global Grad Show takes place 12-16 November during Dubai Design Week.
