Mariska Nell, the Dubai-based sustainability artist and champion, raises awareness of the Rove Downtown hotel’s plastic recycling eco-community project.

Rove Hotels is dedicated to playing a part in building a sustainable, environmentally friendly future for everyone. Earlier this year it introduced a Plastic Promo initiative which encourages guests (or Rovers) to take part in an eco community project. Rovers hand in their plastic bottles to be recycled and in exchange receive dining credits.

Rove Hotels has collaborated with sustainability artist and champion Mariska Nell, who is extremely passionate about turning trash into treasure and transforms recycled elements into beautiful art. The Rove Downtown is proud to showcase the main art piece of Mariska’s show, a chair made of the plastic bottles collected at the hotel, and her immensely creative CoffeeAddictionLamp at its Sustainability Corner,

About Mariska Nell
Mariska Nell is a South African born artist and environmentalist. The inspiration behind her collections started with Nespresso pods. She felt that the pods were too beautiful to end up in the bin and wanted to find a better way of upcycling them. After cleaning 913 pods, she transformed them into hundreds of flowers which were put together to form the CoffeeAddictionLamp. Soon after creating her first lamp, she started to explore different ways to use recycled elements in her paintings and started to craft beautiful things out of what was once waste.

Some of Mariska’s trash-to-treasure creations currently feature in the art collections of Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show; actor and environmentalist Adrian Grenier; entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuck; Virgin Radio Dubai DJ Kris Fade; world-renowned DJ and producer Black Coffee; and Mason Plumlee, an NBA basketball player for the Denver Nuggets . She has also exhibited her work at a number of galleries.
