American University in Dubai's Department of Visual Communication will on host a Visual Cultures Forum presenting "Connecting World Expo Dubai to the Tokyo Olympics," a graphic design and printmaking initiative.
Taking the Dubai World Expo 2020 motto of "connecting minds," American University in Dubai's Department of Visual Communication will on Wednesday, June 22 host a Visual Cultures Forum presenting "Connecting World Expo Dubai to the Tokyo Olympics," a graphic design and printmaking initiative.
"Because both take place in 2020, we felt it was an ideal opportunity to visually connect World Expo in Dubai with the Olympics Games in Tokyo," said Luis Castaneda, Associate Professor of Graphic Design at AUD.
Students will present several 2D patterns that visually connect both events and apply them to two basic types of traditional dress; a Japanese Yukata/Kimono and a scarf. Along with Professor Castaneda, students participating in this course have been guided by Mr. Takeshi Iwata, a Japanese fashion designer based in Kyoto who recently visited AUD.
