Inspired by the branching shape of the Flame Tree Delonix regia, this live installation uses bio-based materials, recycled plastic boards, living technology, and circular design techniques to explore materiality and sustainability.

Roots of the Future is a living installation where nature, technology, materials and people converge to explore new approaches to sustainable design. Inspired by the Flame Tree, Delonix regia, the installation translates its distinctive branching form into an abstract architectural structure and gathering space.

A modular architectural grid forms the main framework, designed to be assembled and disassembled to support modularity and reuse. The structure depicts two abstract trees, creating a shaded space where visitors can explore sustainable materials and systems, including bio-based and mycelium-based materials, recycled plastic boards, living algae technology, kinetic elements and circular design approaches.

Visitors can touch and explore material samples, learn about their properties and applications and participate in activities such as assembling a modular bench. An algae bioreactor offers an opportunity to observe a living system. The experience encourages visitors to consider how these materials and systems could be applied to their own surroundings.
