An exhibition exploring ancient goldsmithing through the experimental archaeological recreation of a Celtic gold torque dating back more than 2,000 years.

Following presentations in Paris, Lyon, Seoul and Shanghai, this exhibition arrives in Dubai to reveal the research behind the recreation of a Celtic gold torque, a neck ornament dating to the Second Iron Age (450–25 BCE). Through experimental archaeology, the project investigates the goldsmithing techniques used by early craftspeople.

Presented by L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, in partnership with the Centre archéologique de Montans and the Musée d’Archéologie nationale, the exhibition brings together research in archaeology, the history of techniques and jewellery craftsmanship. The project involves Goldsmith Master Chaser Antoine Legouy, archaeologist and goldsmith Barbara Armbruster, and Grégory Weinstock, Director of High Jewelry Métiers at Van Cleef & Arpels.

In partnership with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Athar Dubai, the exhibition is accompanied by demonstrations, panel discussions, talks, a podcast and workshops. These activities explore the history and craft of gold, connecting the recreation of the Celtic torque with archaeological finds from the Saruq Al Hadid site and offering visitors insight into the techniques and knowledge behind ancient jewellery.
