Various drop-in activities for children ages 5 to 10 were offered during the weekend at Dubai Design Week hosted by Dubai Jiggy and Engulf Art.

Activities took place on the ground floor of building 9 (opposite Akiba Dori) and was on a first-come-first-serve basis up to a max of 10 participants, no pre-registrations were required

10:00am - 10:40am: DXB Embroidery
From ages 5 to 10

  • There is a rising trend in embroidery and textile art with hand embroidery becoming a popular hobby among new crafters. Participants learnt basic embroidery techniques and got to create their own custom Dubai hand embroidered wall hanging.


11:00am - 11:45am: Wire Portraits
From ages 8 to 10

  • Visitors created a 3D version of the popular portrait line drawings. They started off by learning the art of contour or line drawing and then used pliers and wire to convert their masterpiece into hanging wire sculptures.


12:00pm -12:40pm: Cardboard Snake Knitting
From ages 5 to 10

  • Have you ever tried to knit anything using cardboard rolls, popsicle sticks, rubber bands and yarn? This was a fun way to try out knitting for the first time and kids made their own knitting tools with the materials provided.

2:00pm -2:40pm: D.I.Y Customised Face Masks

  • Visitors customised their own face masks by adding their own created stamps, as well as beads and gems. They received two cotton masks to customize during this activity.


3:00pm – 3:45pm: Woven Pendants

  • Participants made their first woven pendant? A very handy woven project using cardboard and yarn. Once they created their woven pattern, they completed the project by adding bead tassels and a beaded necklace.


4:00pm - 4:40pm: DIY Beaded Dream Catchers

  • Each of our guests were able to create their own beaded dreamcatchers with various tools such as plastic, clay, and pasta beads, feathers, ribbons, yarn, pom poms and so much more


5:00pm - 5:45pm: Jar Cozy Macrame

  • Kids learnt basic yarn knotting techniques and then build their macrame project on an upcycled Jar. They created their very own bohemian nightlamp by adding a tealight or fairy lights inside their Macrame jar.
