PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE was a documentary series on architects at various stages in their careers.

Between 2017 and 2018, Itinerant Office interviewed a selection of 24 internationally distinguished architects from Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and France, prompted by questions about the ever-changing architectural profession.

Curated by Gianpiero Venturini and filmed by Luca Chiaudano of CPStudio, architects such as Stefano Boeri, Robbrecht en Daem, Antoine Chaaya, Joost Moolhuijzen, Caroline Bos, Jacob van Rijs, Kees Christiaanse, Francine Houben, Andrés Jaque and Bak Gordon are interviewed.

Based on a series of documentary-style video-interviews, the project has been divided into three parts:
‘Past’, ‘Present’, and ‘Future’.

PAST questioned the conditions that enabled each interviewee to undertake a path of success that led their firm to be among some of the most internationally recognized. Each architect explained the reasons behind their decision to study architecture, described their first major commissions and revealed personal anecdotes from their younger years.

PRESENT introduced the unique characteristics of each studio, helping us understand how they work and how they have grown over time. By investigating the organizational structure of each firm, their current fields of research, and the analysis of some recently completed projects, we were provided with an interesting overview of each practice, allowing us to understand some of the reasons behind their success.

FUTURE seeked to deliberate relevant topics of today and tomorrow. Each architect suggests a selection of key concepts that represent their own specific approach, whilst anticipating future trends in architecture. Each interview closes with a piece of advice from the interviewee, addressing the new generation of architects and designers.

All screenings will take place on the Dubai Design Week Main Stage screen, in the atrium of Building 7.
