AUGMENTED GARDEN discovers flora’s nervous systems through sound and light. By giving our plants a ‘voice’ SUPERFUTUREDESIGN* encourages visitors to engage in this new dialogue and interact with nature in an unexpected way.

"The more we know of other forms of life, the more we enjoy and respect ourselves…Humanity is exalted not because we are so far above other living creatures, but because knowing them well elevates the very concept of life." — E.O. Wilson

AUGMENTED GARDEN discovers flora’s nervous systems through sound and light. By connecting living organisms to biosensors, a variation of data is generated through electronic components, translating their conversations into a unifying emotional language; the cosmic language of light and sound.

By giving our plants a ‘voice’ SUPERFUTUREDESIGN* encourages the guests of Augmented Garden to engage in this new dialogue and interact with nature in an unexpected way.

SUPERFUTUREDESIGN* explores how science can build a sustainable future – revealing opportunities we may not have considered. Plants may lack brains, but they have a nervous system. Recent discoveries unravelled a longstanding mystery about how different parts of a plant communicate and interact with one another both aboveground and below, in surprisingly subtle and sophisticated ways. Not only using their roots to exchange carbon nutrients or hormones to attract certain insects but a significant exchange of information takes place as a result of outside stimulus by electrical impulses and signals.
