An installation which reinterprets traditional Arabian Majlis floor seating for a contemporary audience.

In 2015, UNESCO designated Arabian Majlis seating as a universal symbol of the region’s cultural heritage, yet modern families wishing to integrate majlis seating into their homes have few international products to choose from.

Made for Dubai seeks to address this industry oversight and the increasing complexities of keeping beloved regional traditions alive. The installation was created by German Sven Müller of SVENM in collaboration with textile and rug specialists Kvadrat Maharam and purveyor of extraordinary paints Caparol Icons, and translates the vibrant tradition of the Arabian Majlis for today.

SVENM Architecture and Design opened in 2009 and is one of the founding members of the minimalist movement in the UAE. The studio is recognised for clear creative concepts, precise design details, building efficient architectural projects and working across residential projects, master-planning and hospitality.

The longstanding partnership of Denmark-based Kvadrat and US-based Maharam is founded on a shared philosophy of design innovation and service excellence. Leaders in their respective markets, Kvadrat and Maharam’s combined product offering represents the largest range of textiles available worldwide.

The Caparol Icons paint range includes 120 new colours and won a German industry award for excellence this year.
