An installation which reinterprets traditional Arabian Majlis floor seating for a contemporary audience.

In 2015, UNESCO designated Arabian Majlis seating as a universal symbol of the region’s cultural heritage, yet modern families wishing to integrate majlis seating into their homes have few international products to choose from.

Made for Dubai seeks to address this industry oversight and the increasing complexities of keeping beloved regional traditions alive. The installation was created by German Sven Müller of SVENM in collaboration with textile and rug specialists Kvadrat Maharam and purveyor of extraordinary paints Caparol Icons, and translates the vibrant tradition of the Arabian Majlis for today.
