Launched as part of its ‘Design for Good’ programme, Dubai Design District (d3) will stage Design 100 at Downtown Editions.

Aiming to connect the design community through creative collaborations and to promote social change, the 'Design for Good' initiative has challenged designers from across the UAE to submit proposals for a piece of furniture or a functional object that can be manufactured in multiples. Selected by an expert jury, the winning piece will have 100 editions produced by Dubai Design District (d3) in partnership with American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC).

The winning product will be unveiled within Downtown Editions, the new section of the Downtown Design fair, showcasing limited-edition and bespoke design, where it will be sold to the fair’s visitors. All proceeds will be allocated to Dubai Cares and their support for Syrian refugees.

‘Design for Good’ is based on three key pillars: Design for place making, prioritizing design that encourages creativity and collaboration in public environments and Design for sustainability. The intention is to explore design solutions to maximise long-term economic, social and environmental value, reiterating the fact design solutions can empower people and challenges perceptions.
