Professor Naren Barfield, Pro-Rector Academic, Royal College of Arts (RCA), talks about design education, and how this year RCA was voted the world’s leading Art and Design University.

Professor Naren Barfield, Pro-Rector (Academic) is an artist and senior academic leader who is highly experienced in strategic leadership, policy, and research and assessment. He has contributed to the development of the creative and performing arts in the UK and internationally, and is responsible for the RCA’s academic strategy for postgraduate programmes, research, knowledge exchange and internationalisation.

His expertise ranges across fine art practice, theory, and curatorship, with more than 90 individual and collaborative exhibitions in the UK, Europe, USA, South Africa, Australia, China and Japan. His work is included in collections internationally, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York; the British Museum; the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts, Tokyo; and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

He is a visiting professor at the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, China, and has been an expert advisor or reviewer for universities and research councils in the UK, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.
