Downtown Design, the leading design fair in the region and a key feature of Dubai Design Week, pledges a fully carbon neutral event by 2023, implementing the first wave of initiatives at this year’s fair by reducing its own footprint to zero on everything directly built and delivered as event organisers, and assisting exhibitors to do the same in 2023.
To deliver the fair’s goal, Downtown Design 2022 will use only existing infrastructures to build stands and features, refrain from use of all single-use materials and recycle all waste generate from the build, breakdown and operation of the event and implement solar energy to generate power and offset carbon footprint of any fossil fuel used. Additionally, the fair will refrain from using single-use plastic in the food & beverage outlets and go digital with fair collateral, including invitations and catalogues.
The fair will assist its exhibitors by offering sustainable options for stand building, provide free storage for stands for multiple use as well as consolidated shipping options and efficient carbon offsetting options.
The organizers also encourage exhibitors, partners, and attendees to join the initiative by implementing as many sustainable actions and initiatives as possible for Downtown Design 2022, collectively working towards becoming a certified zero carbon event in 2023.
