‘Design 100’: d3 invites submissions from UAE-based designers
As part of its recently announced ‘Design for Good’ programme, which aims to connect the design community through creative collaborations to support and promote social change, Dubai Design District is inviting designers from across the UAE to submit design for a piece of furniture or a functional object.
An expert jury will select the winning piece, and 100 editions will be produced by d3 in partnership with American Hardwood Export Council to be sold to visitors to Dubai Design Week 2018. All proceeds from the sale will be allocated to Dubai Cares and their support for Syrian refugees.
The ‘Design for Good’ programme is based on three key pillars: Design for placemaking, prioritising design that encourages creativity and collaboration in public environments; Design for sustainability, design solutions to maximise long-term economic, social and environmental value; and Design for empowerment, which reiterates that design solutions should empower people and challenges perceptions.
Mohammad Saeed Al-Shehhi, CEO of d3, said: “Design offers solutions to any problem and through the power of design we can ensure a positive impact on various communities. Collaboration has also proven to achieve greater creativity and improved solutions. Our decision at d3 to launch Design for Good is based on these fundamentals. We are confident such efforts will bring the local design community together to work towards the cause of supporting and encouraging social change.”
The deadline for submitting ‘Design 100’ entries is 16 August 2018. For details on the project please visit www.dubaidesigndistrict.com
